Leyland's Tortoise is a species of tortoise indigenous to Earth, and moderately successfully established on both Saisei and Locke. Destruction of their native habitat, mixed with over-collection has made them nearly extinct in the wild. Leyland's Tortoise have glossy shells with very little color variation. They are a favorite among human long-haul spacers who keep them as pets.[1]
Introduction Attempts
While attempts at introducing Leyland's Tortoise have been moderately successful on Saisei and Locke, there was another attempt to introduce them to Lo in 2875, however the Banu consumed them at an unsustainable rate, making introduction near impossible.[1]
Pet Trade
Due to their near extinction status, it is illegal to own a captured Leyland's Tortoise. However, so long as it has been bred in captivity, it is a perfectly legal pet.[1]
