Battle of the Bricks

From the Star Citizen Wiki, the fidelity™ encyclopedia
Battle of the Bricks

Battle of the Bricks was a charity event held in common by Star Citizen and Eve Online centered on building spaceships with Legos bricks that took place over June and July 2022.[1]

Origins

While social media manager Galaxt1ka was only working at Cloud Imperium Games for two months, she shared a community member Lego build of a Vulture, which Eve Online retweeted asking if they could bring a Venture, both tweeted back and forth, with CIG issuing a challenge to Eve Online which they accepted, thus leading to a charity stream Lego build contest and both teams having fun going out behind the scenes.[2][3][4][5]

The Battle of the Bricks was a competition to find the finest brick builders from Stanton all the way to New Eden, in the form of an aerospace build-off, with prizes to win and a cause to benefit.[1]

In a first phase, each game hosted its own independent contest that challenged its own community to flex its creativity and create the best Lego models.[1]

In a second phase, a head-to-head finale packed with challenges took place. The EVE Community team was invited to the CIG UK studio with a Livestream on Twitch. Each game's team had to build the winning entries from the opposing community's earlier contest. This means the Star Citizen Community team building EVE ships, and EVE's Community team building Star Citizen ships. [1]

Charity

Extralife

The event was done in collaboration with Extra Life to turn the friendly rivalry into a cross-community fundraiser. Extra Life is a fundraising program of Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals. Its community fundraises year-round to Change Kids’ Health to Change the Future. The donations went to children’s hospitals to fund critical life-saving treatments and healthcare services, along with innovative research, vital pediatric medical equipment, and child life services.[1]

Quote

While we need your help in squashing the competition and showing why the Star Citizen community is the best in gaming, we also want to take a moment to remind everyone why this collaboration is so special to us. Both communities have one magical thing in common: we're all space nerds. In the spirit of showing the rest of the industry what the sci-fi genre is capable of, we wish the best for our competitors in their brick-building journey (even if they're certainly going to lose). Let's show the world that the more space games there are, the better.[1]

Trivia

  • With the event taking place in 2022 soon after the end of the Covid-19 pandemic, covid masks can be seen worn at one point during the livestream for non covid related reasons, namely a stinky fish.[6]
