Isometric view of an instanced hangar.

A hangar is a building or structure designed to hold aircraft or spacecraft. In Star Citizen hangars can be either public or instanced. Instanced hangars belong to players as their personal property.

Development

In Alpha 3.13.1a, the hangar module was disabled pending further review.[1] Given that players still "own" their hangars and the items associated with them, it is assumed that the hangar module will eventually be replaced by permanent hangars within the Persistent Universe itself.

In Alpha 3.23.0 they were replaced by in-game personal and instanced hangars.[2]

Trivia

The word hangar comes from Middle French hanghart ("enclosure near a house"), of Germanic origin, from Frankish *haimgard ("home-enclosure", "fence around a group of houses"), from *haim ("home, village, hamlet") and gard ("yard"). The term, gard, comes from the Old Norse garðr ("enclosure, garden").
