Planet Tech v2, known at the time as Procedural Planets v2 was a large feature-update to the initially proposed planet tech for Star Citizen and is the version of planets that was released with Alpha 3.0 for the old planetoid version of Delamar as well as moons Yela, Cellin and Daymar. Building on the technology of v1, v2 additionally allowed for the distribution of various biomes and sub-biomes across a planetary surface, with asset scattering as well as hand-placed points of interest (POIs). The graphical improvements from v1 to v2 were substantial, with the surface of Daymar being strongly comparable to real-life images of the surface of Mars. Early work on atmospherics were used for Yela and Daymar including non-volumetric clouds. Yela was implemented with a procedurally-generated asteroid ring. This version of planet tech strongly relies on a workflow of mountain erosion and craters.
