The Ngii ( Xi'an: ngii (Proper); literally yengi; ), also known as the Yao'yao after the sound it makes, or the Yengi Cat by speakers of UEE Standard, are a semi-aquatic domestic animal indiginous to RyiXy'an. They have lived beside the Xi'an since the advent of farming, and serve as a popular means of pest control.^[1]

Ngii are typically allowed to roam free in the homes of their companions, sleeping on perches which are meant to mimic the low tree branches native to their home.^[1] While not a particularly intelligent creature, the are fierce companions, watching over their caretakers all day.^[2]
