Chris Harrow

From the Star Citizen Wiki, the fidelity™ encyclopedia
Chris Harrow

Chris Harrow has created the fonts for the Xi'an and Banu languages from Star Citizen.

He didn't do any language work prior to learning Xi'an, however when he was younger he was reading Perry Rhodan in which there is an intergalactic language called Intercosmo which is just a transliteration, where one needs to learn the letters rather than an entire new language, and for which he created a font for himself.[1]

Years later, when sitting in the audience at CitizenCon 2017 and hearing about the alien languages, he decided he wanted to learn them.[1]

As he was learning the Xi'an language he found the initial Xi'an font to be difficult to use, so he bought a font design software to make it better. He sent his font to Britton Watkins thinking it might make it easier for him to create more content for the community, and after Bitton showed the font to Cloud Imperium Games, they contacted Chris and bought the font from him. They also offered him a contract to work on the next alien language, and during CitizenCon 2019 Chris and Britton presented the Banu language.[1]

He created alien languages dictionary apps which can be accessed at his UEE Xenolinguistics Institute website.[2]

Chris Harrow regularly appears at events such as Bar Citizen or Citizen Con where he does calligraphy on rice paper.
