The Star Citizen Referral program rewards players that referrer new people to the Star Citizen project. Anyone registering with a player's personal code will automatically get 5.000 UEC, those prospects become a recruit once they purchase a Game package and spend at least 40 USD on the Pledge Store. At that point the player that referred them earns a Recruitment Point which progresses them towards the next referral reward.[1]

Time-limited rewards
These time limited rewards are only available in specific time frames to celebrate an event and incentive the player. The referred player must become a 'recruit' by buying their game package while the event is active, regardless of when they created their account.
Special Incentive Events
During these events a special reward is offered outside of the standard referral rewards. Most of the it is a ship or similar that will be given to both the new player and the player that referred them.

RSI 2017 Referral Contest
The RSI 2017 referral contest was announced on April 20st of 2017 and ran until August 8th of 2017, the goal of the contest was to get as many recruitment points as possible. The first person that would reach 2942 recruitment points during the contest period would receive a free trip to Gamescom 2017. Next to that at the end of the contest the person that was at the top of the referral leaderboard recieved an Idris-M frigate. The person that won the free Gamescom trip was unable to receive the Idris-M reward.
Both of those rewards were based on lifetime recruitment points, which included all recruitment points from before the contest till the end of the contest.
This contest was also the 15th birthday of 'Sally', the star of the Star Kitten lineup which is featured on the first two reward tiers.[21]
