The Intergalactic Aerospace Expo 2954 is a 14-day ship exposition event held at New Babbage in the Stanton System. The expo is an annual event that brings ships of all different manufacturers together to be displayed at several expo halls. As in previous years, the event is coupled with a free-fly event, allowing players without a Game Package to play the game for free, and also offering free rentals of ships that are on display to all players. Free players without a ship will have access to a Cutter to get themselves around the system.[1] The event will traditionally also feature several new vehicle announcements.

Throughout the event, one or several manufacturers are featured on the showfloor in the game. Ships and vehicles from those manufacturers are also available in the Pledge Store, giving players the opportunity to obtain vehicles that were otherwise not available throughout the rest of the year. This event is usually the largest income source from pledges in a year, and it gives funding for the game a major boost.

Ship showdown

The event succeeds the annual Ship Showdown. During the showdown, backers were able to vote on their favorite ship in each round during the month of September. The winning ships of this year were the F8C Lightning, followed by the C1 Spirit, Terrapin, Reclaimer. These ships will be highlighted at the expo on the 10th day.[2]

Showcase schedule

Starting on November 22, each day one or more ship manufacturers will be featured in the expo halls for 48 hours. Switches occur at 1600 UTC daily. All vehicles that are physically on display will be rentable for a duration of 48 hours.[1]

24 hour bug

From the outset of the event, each manufacturer's show-floor was limited to just 24 hours, rather than the planned 48 hours. Whenever the switch occurs and the next showfloor opens up, the other one closes. On the fourth day, CIG recognized this issue and stated they would investigate, although they cautioned that a resolution might not be achievable in time. [3][4]

Concept sales

IAE 2954 featured several new vehicle reveals. This is the first time a specific vehicle is on sale. Concept sales traditionally include LTI.

Intrepid

Intrepid on display at IAE.

A starter ship by Crusader Industries, the Intrepid is a diverse ship with a little of everything on board. It features 8SCU of cargo, habitation, personal storage, weapon racks, easy maintenance, and a single size 4 weapon.

Terrapin Medic

The Terrapin Medic is a variant of the Terrapin with a medical support role. Featuring a tier 2 medical bed, this ship is adept at securely extracting injured persons from hazardous situations, thanks to its durable armor and shielding systems.

Paladin

Little is known of the Paladin. Rumors suggest it's a large gunship from Anvil Aerospace.

Commemorative items

Owners of the ships that made it to the Ship Showdown semi-finals will receive a free limited-edition ship paint and manufacturer poster. All players will receive a F8C Lightning collectible pennant as well. Players who visits the expo hall on 5 separate days throughout the event will receive an IAE 2954 Spectrum badge.[1]

The IAE Show

The events of IAE were usually covered by Jax McCleary with episodes of Whitley's Guide. However, last year it was on hiatus for various reasons.[5]

As you know Whitley's Guide is on hiatus for this year's IAE, and our attempts to reach you have been unsuccessful. Despite the uncertainty regarding your location, issues with contracts, extradition, and other matters too sensitive to publicize, we hope you're staying safe, whatever 'activities' you might be engaged in.

The real reason behind this was later clarified by Tyler Witkin on reddit, who explained that it was scrapped because the entire cinematic group is focused on Squadron 42.[6]

This year, The IAE Show will air several times during the event. This video series features in-lore content, dev interviews, insights and more.

IAE Academy

New this year is the IAE Academy. This is a set of activities that new and veteran players can do to get started with various gameplay activities in the PU. If you complete at least 3 of these activities, you are rewarded in-game gear. [7]

Activities

There are 5 activities to choose from.

  1. First steps: play the tutorial. When you create your first character, you are prompted to do a tutorial. Complete the tutorial to complete this task.
  2. Visit IAE: go to Tobin Expo Center, visit a showfloor and rent a vehicle on display.
  3. Combat: complete the ‘Tracker Training Permit Certification’ from the Bounty Hunters Guild.
  4. Hauling: complete the ‘Opportunity for Independent Cargo Hauler’ contract.
  5. Industry: engage in any two types of mining, hand mining or asteroid mining, and sell the ore collected at a commodity kiosk.

Check the IAE Academy page to track your progress. This page updates every day at 1600 UTC.

For veteran players, completion of the hauling contract, bounty hunter contract and the new player tutorial will be counted since 3.24.0's initial release in August.[8]

Rewards

Combat career kit

Complete any three tasks to earn the following items permanently to your (website) hangar.

In-game rewards will be attributed to players on 27 Nov, 2 Dec, and 5 Dec, 2024.
