Ship paints, or ship skins, are cosmetic skins for Star Citizen ships, changing the livery and/or the color of the ship. You can see the ship paints directly on the relevant ship pages on the wiki.
Ship paints currently fall under four categories:[1]
- Ships that come with a unique look from their basic counterpart, such as the Gladius vs Pirate Gladius.
- Ships that can be customized to apply a unique look, such as the Origin 300 series.
- Upgrades like paints to apply to a ship to give them a distinct new appearance, such as the IAE Best in Show Cutlass Livery.
- In-Game paint items that work like and are stored similar to ship components.
Players will eventually have to fly to physical locations within the verse such as Cousin Crow to get their vehicles painted.[2][3]
Availability
More paints are becoming available over time.[1] The paints are usually released on the day of the corresponding ship sale, often taking place during events that include Invictus Launch Week. They can therefore be released on different days of a recurring event depending on which ships from which manufacturer are sold when during the event.
Some paints are limited editions only available during specific events.[4]
The paints are not currently available directly ingame and can only be purchased with real money, however a number of skins will eventually be available to purchase directly ingame with UEC, including exclusively purchasable with UEC.[4]
HEX codes
The paints will be available to share as Hex codes in the future which will be particularly useful for sharing within a player organization.[5]
